This transaction estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – a record for a Formula 1 squad – following the McLaren team was appraised at £3.5 billion in a change of corporate structure in September. The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, plans to divest a shareholding approximately five percent. Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team boss and CEO if the sale goes through. Ownership Structure The other shareholders in the team are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the enterprise. An official representative said: "We will be making no comment on the matter. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unchanged, and all three partners are fully committed to continued achievements of the brand in F1." Valuation Growth The deal would represent a significant increase in worth of Mercedes F1 after Ineos Group bought its share for £208m in 2022. This surge reflects the expansion in valuations of Formula 1 outfits in the past few years as a consequence of the growing popularity of the sport globally. This trend was evident with the success of the Formula 1 film featuring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which was released last summer and has grossed more than $630m (£458m) at the box office. The film represents the actor's top-grossing movie and the most successful sports movie ever released. Current Standings The Mercedes team are second in the team standings, trailing McLaren, with three Grands Prix remaining in the current championship. Mercedes' primary racer British driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 grands prix so far and is in fourth place in the individual standings after McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team secured a unprecedented eight straight constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 and 2021.
