The orchestrator of the plot, who engineered a system to provide undetectable performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes including baseball greats Giambi and Bonds and sprinting gold medalist Marion Jones in the past, is deceased. He reached 75 years.

The Mitchell Report

The investigation led to the publication titled Game of Shadows. Just days following the publication date in 2006, MLB commissioner Bud Selig hired ex-senator Mitchell to investigate steroids.

He revealed he sold steroids known as two specific substances and guided their usage to many professional sportspeople, such as Jason Giambi, a multiple-time All-Star, according to the report.

Employing banned drugs poses a serious threat to the fairness of the game,” the report stated. “Widespread use by players of these drugs harms the clean players who avoid them and leads to skepticism about the accuracy of historical stats.”

Post-incarceration, Conte resumed operations in the late 2000s by rebooting a supplements company he had launched previously called SNAC System. He operated in the same building that previously contained Balco in the California city.

He remained defiant about his central role in distributing designer steroids to top sports stars. He claimed he simply helped “even the competition” in a arena already rife with rule-breakers.

To a WADA member, a former participant of the WADA, he was essentially selling hard drugs. “This involves totally illegal drug trafficking. It's about substance use in violation of federal law,” Wadler said in the past. “It's not a good deed and it's not altruistic. It's illegal sales.”
