The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on October 29.
